What is Horenso? Principles and effective application methods (utilizing the 5 Task Infographic already designed)
What is Horenso?
In Japanese, Horenso means spinach. But in business, Horenso is a term formed from the three abbreviations “Ho”, “Ren”, and “So”.
- “Ho” in “Hokoku” means “notification” or “báo cáo” (report).
- “Ren” in “Renraku” means “contact” or “cập nhật” (contact).
- “So” in “Sodan” in Vietnamese means “discussion” or “nhập khẩu” (in English, it is called Consult).
The importance of the Horenso principle in businesses
Purpose
- To create a closer relationship between managers and employees, helping to improve corporate culture.
- Colleagues have harmonious relationships, find common ground, and work together to accomplish major tasks.
The Horenso principle applies to:
- Office work
- Life
- Communication
- Teamwork.
- Horenso helps you work more efficiently and improve communication skills in life.
- Making decisions on your own without consulting others may cause you to miss out on better solutions.
Effective teamwork process using the Horenso method
Specifically in work
1. Superior gives the request => 2. Subordinate reviews & carries out initial steps (research, preliminary planning, drafting) => 3. Subordinate reports & asks for feedback => 4. Superior responds => 5. Subordinate adjusts & continues to report
Result: Horenso helps you be more proactive in your work.
Principles for applying Horenso in corporate culture
1. Hokoku – Notification, report
- When to report: When completing a task or during the implementation of long-term tasks that require progress updates.
- Best reporting method: Complete, accurate, prioritize bad news first, polite language.
- Reporting methods to avoid: Lack of information, inaccurate, report good news first, rude, disrespectful, unverified data.
2. Renraku – Maintaining communication
- Appropriate communication methods: For simple, urgent issues, communicate directly or by phone, keep it brief. For notifying many people, use meetings or internal emails.
- Inappropriate communication methods: Lengthy, unclear, irrelevant to work, time-wasting, untimely.
3. Sodan – Discussion, effective team consultation
- Appropriate discussion methods: Many participants, diverse opinions, full acknowledgment, clear goals, unified implementation of final decision.
- Poor discussion methods: Few participants, lack of new ideas, no acknowledgment of opinions, unclear goals, no common decision.
How to use Horenso for highly effective teamwork
Confirm before working
Confirmation is required before carrying out tasks requested by others or delegated work. Information to be considered includes: understanding of the issue, solution, consequences, or costs of resolving the issue.
Timely reporting
Timely reporting helps management provide timely support and feel secure at work. Bad news can turn into good news if it is delivered quickly.
Always share information with others
We need to find the fastest and easiest way to share information with everyone. It can be updated directly, in posts on bulletin boards, or during daily meetings.
Discuss as soon as possible
If you have any doubts, discuss and resolve the issue immediately. Take the opportunity to seek help from colleagues and superiors.
Be proactive at work
We can save managers' time by being proactive. It also gives managers more time to think about other, more important tasks.
