Natural aloe vera and gum drink is a refreshing, cooling beverage that’s perfect for hot days. With only a few simple ingredients, you’ll have this café-style drink in no time. Follow the recipe below and treat your family whenever you have free time.
1. Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need:
3 - 4 natural aloe vera leaves (about 500g)
10g gum
10g cotton gum
100g basil seeds
Rock sugar or white sugar (adjust sweetness to taste, rock sugar is recommended for a milder, smoother sweetness)
2 - 3 pandan leaves
1 lime and a pinch of salt
That’s it! All of these ingredients are easy to find at local markets or nearby supermarkets, making this recipe simple to prepare at home.
2. Preparation
With all the ingredients on hand, the next step is to prepare them and get them ready to cook.
2.1 Aloe Vera
Make sure to clean the natural aloe vera thoroughly to remove all the yellow sap. If any remains, it can be harmful to your health.
First, wash the aloe leaves and peel off the skin. Then rinse the gel several times until it’s no longer slimy, and cut it into small pieces to make the following steps easier.
Next, fill a bowl with clean water, squeeze in the juice of one lime, and add a tablespoon of salt. Stir until dissolved, then add the aloe pieces and let them soak for about 20 minutes to remove any bitterness.
Meanwhile, boil a pot of clean water for the next step.
After 20 minutes, drain the aloe and rinse it with water. Quickly blanch the aloe in boiling water for about 30 seconds, then immediately transfer it to a bowl of ice water. Let it soak for 5 minutes to keep the aloe clear and chewy.
Finally, cut the aloe into small cubes and let them drain completely. ooling beverage that’s perfect for
2.2 Gum, cotton gum, and basil seeds
Gum and cotton gum need time to soak and fully expand. To save preparation time, it’s best to soak them overnight before use.
After the gums swell, pour off the water. You can use the gum straight away, but cut the cotton gum into bite-sized pieces.
Basil seeds expand very quickly in water, so it’s best to soak them only when the drink is nearly finished. If you prefer, chia seeds can be used instead, but they need a longer soaking time, so plan the timing accordingly.
3. Directions
In a pot, pour in about 700ml of clean water, add the pandan leaves and rock sugar (or white sugar), and bring to a boil. Stir until the sugar melts completely.
When the sugar has melted and the water is fragrant with pandan, take out the leaves. Add the diced aloe and cook for another 3 - 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it cool.
4. Final drink
Once the aloe syrup has completely cooled, pour it into a glass and add the cotton gum, gum, and basil seeds. Stir well and enjoy!
If you want to enjoy it cold, chill it in the fridge for 2 - 3 hours or drop in a few ice cubes to cool it quickly.
This natural aloe vera and gum drink has a gentle sweetness and a pleasant pandan aroma. The chewy texture of aloe, gum, and cotton gum, combined with refreshing basil seeds, creates a drink that is both enjoyable and nourishing for the body.
Now you know how to make this refreshing aloe vera and gum drink to stay cool during summer. With chia seeds, you can benefit your skin and maintain a healthy weight, making it a healthier alternative to sugary drinks like soda or milk tea. Give it a try when you have some free time. You’ll be amazed at how tasty it is!
