High-tech agriculture: Shaping a new era of production in Vietnam

Table of contents

High-tech agriculture does not begin with investing in modern machinery or large-scale greenhouses but with controlling the quality of input materials. This model is gradually transforming the way agriculture operates by tightly managing cultivation processes, conserving resources, and reducing environmental impact.

1. What is high-tech agriculture?

High-tech agriculture is a production model that applies modern scientific and technological advances throughout the entire production process - from seed selection and cultivation to harvesting, processing and storage. This model helps improve productivity and ensures better control over the quality of agricultural outputs.

Instead of relying solely on natural conditions and traditional experience, this agricultural model leverages solutions such as biotechnology, automation, environmental sensors, digital data and advanced farming practices to enhance both yield and product quality.

The adoption of high-tech agriculture enables businesses to proactively control plant diseases, reduce post-harvest losses and produce agricultural goods that meet export standards. In addition, this model helps minimize negative environmental impacts by conserving water, reducing chemical use and promoting responsible resource management.

2. Application of tissue culture technology in aloe vera production at GC Food

The application of tissue culture technology in aloe vera production is one of the distinguishing features of the high-tech agriculture model at G.C Food Joint Stock Company (GC Food). Instead of relying on traditional propagation methods, GC Food has proactively invested in tissue culture laboratories to preserve and develop high-quality aloe vera genetic resources.

This technology enables the propagation of aloe vera plants that are uniform in quality and free from disease. As a result, GC Food’s entire aloe vera growing areas achieve consistency in size, crisp texture and nutritional content.

Using tissue-cultured seedlings, G.C Food Joint Stock Company cultivates and cares for aloe vera in accordance with VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. After harvesting, the aloe vera is transferred to Canh Dong Viet Food Joint Stock Company (VietFarm) for pre-processing and processing. This closed-loop production process removes slime and bitterness while preserving the aloe vera’s clear color, characteristic crispness and extended shelf life. All of these factors contribute to the distinctiveness of GC Food’s aloe vera products in the market.

3. Advantages in raw materials and high-tech production at GC Food

G.C Food Joint Stock Company not only focuses on processing but also makes systematic investments in raw material cultivation. GC Food’s aloe vera growing areas cover approximately 250 hectares, cultivated in compliance with VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, and are mainly located in Ninh Thuan Province. Thanks to the region’s distinctive hot and dry climate, aloe vera plants thrive and deliver high yields of around 550 tons per hectare per year.

In the coming years, GC Food plans to expand its aloe vera cultivation area to 500 hectares, distributed across Ninh Thuan Province and several provinces in the South Central region of Vietnam. At the same time, the company is investing in in vitro propagation technology to produce approximately 3 million high-quality seedlings each year. These tissue-cultured aloe vera plants are disease-free, uniform in growth rate and aligned with the company’s sustainable development strategy.

The advancement of high-tech agriculture enables businesses to meet consumers’ increasingly high expectations for agricultural product quality. By applying advanced technologies, GC Food contributes to the creation of safe and sustainable products.
